Cabinets are the most visible surface in a kitchen and often the one that ages worst. Painting them can transform a room for a fraction of a remodel, but the price varies more than most people expect, because the work is mostly prep and finishing rather than painting itself.
These are general Las Vegas ranges for 2026. A written estimate is always the real price.
Typical cost ranges
| Scope | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Small kitchen, around 15 to 20 doors and drawers | $2,500 to $5,000 |
| Average kitchen, 25 to 35 doors and drawers | $3,500 to $7,500 |
| Large kitchen with island and pantry | $6,000 to $12,000 |
| Bathroom vanity | $300 to $900 |
| Laundry or garage cabinets | Priced by the piece count |
Many painters price by the door and drawer front plus the cabinet boxes. Doors and drawers take most of the time, because they are removed, cleaned, sanded, primed and finished on both sides.
What goes into the price
Door and drawer count
More pieces means more sanding, priming, spraying and drying rack space. Shaker doors with flat centers are the quickest. Raised panels, beaded inset and glass-front doors take longer.
Condition of the existing finish
Kitchen cabinets carry years of cooking grease, which is an invisible enemy of paint adhesion. They must be degreased thoroughly. Peeling thermofoil is a different problem and is often not a good candidate for painting. Veneer that is lifting or water-damaged boxes may need repair first.
Wood type and grain
Oak has deep open grain that shows through paint unless it is filled. Many homeowners like the texture, and others want it smooth, which needs a grain filler and adds labor. Maple and birch are smoother and cheaper to finish.
Finish and sheen
A durable cabinet-grade coating, such as a urethane-modified acrylic or a catalyzed product, holds up better to bumps, cleaning and daily use than wall paint. It costs more. A satin or semi-gloss sheen is typical. Sprayed finishes look smoother than brushed ones, which is why spraying is common on doors.
Hardware and repairs
Swapping pulls or hinges is often extra. New soft-close hinges, filling old hardware holes and repairing chipped corners are all add-ons.
Color choice
White and light neutrals are the most common. Dark colors show dust and nicks but hide grease. A big color jump usually needs more coats.
Painting versus replacing or refacing
If your boxes are solid wood or good plywood and the layout works, painting is generally the most economical route. Refacing, which covers boxes with veneer and adds new doors, costs more. Full replacement costs the most and adds demolition and installation. If the layout is wrong or the boxes are failing, the extra money is justified.
What the process looks like
- Remove doors, drawers and hardware, and label everything
- Degrease and clean all surfaces
- Sand or scuff for adhesion, and fill dings or open grain if desired
- Prime with a bonding primer
- Apply two coats of finish, with drying time between them
- Cure, reinstall and adjust
Skipping degreasing or priming is the main reason painted cabinets fail. In a valley home, the dry climate helps the paint set up quickly, though it can also flash-dry a brushed coat, so spraying or sprayable-quality technique matters.
Desert-specific notes
Dry air is easy on cabinet coatings compared to humid climates, where finishes cure slowly and can stay tacky. Heat, however, matters near south-facing windows, because sunlight can yellow some whites over time. Ask for a non-yellowing product if your kitchen gets strong afternoon sun.

Is it worth it?
Cabinets carry a lot of a kitchen’s look, so a good finish can change the feel of the whole room without touching the layout or countertops. It works best when the boxes are sound, the doors are flat or simple, and you like the existing configuration.
It is a poor fit when doors are warped, veneer is peeling in sheets, or water has swollen the boxes under the sink. Those need repair or replacement first, and painting over them only hides the problem for a while.
Also be realistic about wear. Painted cabinets can show small chips at corners and around handles over the years. A hard cabinet coating and gentle cleaning keep that to a minimum, and touch-ups are simple.

Quick answers
How much does it cost to paint kitchen cabinets in Las Vegas?
A typical kitchen often runs about $3,000 to $8,000 depending on the number of doors and drawers, condition and finish. A written estimate is the real price.
Is painting cabinets cheaper than replacing them?
Usually by a wide margin, as long as the boxes are solid. Replacement often costs several times more once installation and countertops come into play.
How long does cabinet painting take?
Commonly about five to ten working days, since doors and drawer fronts are prepped, primed and finished in stages with drying time between coats.
Will painted cabinets chip?
Any painted surface can chip at edges over time. Thorough degreasing, a bonding primer and a hard-wearing cabinet coating reduce it a lot.
